Beer Filtration

Deep-Bed Filtration

Deep-bed filters, as shown in Figure 15.5, consist of a stainless steel vertical frame with filter pads stacked one upon the other into the frame. Each conical filter pad has several layers with different degrees of permeability-very coarse on the inlet side and proceeding in stages to finer grades of filtration toward the outlet side. The step-by-step separation process is very efficient in providing good separation of haze particles, yeasts, and bacteria.
